Faculty position at UNC-Chapel Hill and NC State University

The Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering at UNC and NC State University is seeking passionate educators experienced in biomedical design to help prepare students to identify and engineer innovative solutions for evolving healthcare needs. This is a non-tenure track, Teaching Assistant/Associate Professor role that will be responsible for leading vertically-integrated biomedical engineering design teams through the design process using hands-on studio, classroom, and clinical experiences. Call for nominations for BED awards

Each year, the Biomedical Engineering Division (BED) of the ASEE grants several awards at the annual ASEE conference, including the Theo C. Pilkington Outstanding Educator Award and the Biomedical Engineering Teaching Award.

Theo C. Pilkington Outstanding Educator Award

The Biomedical Engineering Division (BED) of ASEE annually awards The Theo Pilkington Outstanding Educator award. This award is conferred by the division for significant contributions to biomedical engineering education as evidenced by the development of successful undergraduate or graduate level programs, curricula, publications as well as by membership and activities in ASEE/BED and other biomedical engineering organizations. The award consists of a commemorative plaque and a check for $350.  This award recognizes the contribution of Theo C. Pilkington as a true pioneer in Biomedical Engineering who contributed significantly to the advancement of Biomedical Engineering Education.

Biomedical Engineering Teaching Award

This award is conferred by the Biomedical Engineering Division (BED) to recognize contributions in the field of biomedical engineering education by new faculty members as evidenced by innovative teaching materials, curricula, textbooks and/or professional papers and by activity in ASEE/BED and/or other biomedical engineering organizations. Awardees must have a primary educational role in biomedical engineering, either through a dedicated BME/Bioengineering program or through a related engineering program. Faculty members who have no more than 5 years (by June 1 of the year in which the award is given) of teaching experience with primary course responsibility at the university/college or community college level are eligible for this award. The award consists of $350 and a commemorative plaque.

The Awards Committee is again soliciting nominations for these two awards.  Note that all award winners must attend the Awards Banquet held during the ASEE Annual Conference in Tampa, FL. U-M Post Doctoral Teaching Fellowship in Engineering Education – International Teaching Experience

U-M Post Doctoral Teaching Fellowship in Engineering Education – International Teaching Experience:  We are seeking one post doctoral teaching fellow for a collaboration between the University of Michigan (U-M) Department of Biomedical Engineering and Shantou University (Shantou, Guangdong Province, China).  This “train the trainer” engineering education collaboration will lead to the development of the next generation, experiential biomedical engineering curriculum to meet 21st century challenges.  Fellows are mentored by U-M instructors on the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor campus and then travel to Shantou University, where they participate in the development and launch of similar courses for the new Shantou University Biomedical Engineering Program.  The goal of this collaboration is to introduce innovative, evidence-based pedagogical practices into the Shantou classroom.

Applicants are encouraged, but not required, to submit some type of media that demonstrates their teaching (e.g. link to video of the applicant teaching or an example of an instructional intervention designed by the applicant). P-12 Educator Conference

The P-12 Educator Conference is back with an exciting new approach! The Pre-College Engineering Education Division of ASEE has partnered with the local public schools in the Tampa area to provide their P-12 educators with session topics relevant for their district. This one-day conference will take place starting at 9:00 am on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at Rampello K-8 School in the School District of Hillsborough County. The conference is structured with four time slots for sessions from 9:00-3:30, with multiple offerings in each time slot, followed by a Curriculum Showcase. Lunch will be provided. Please consider applying to present a session, or registering to attend the conference if you are a teacher from out of the area or if you are a high-leverage educator.

We are looking for dynamic and interactive presentations to be delivered to over 200 P-12 teachers in the Tampa area focused on early learner engineering, project-based learning, design thinking, sustainability, and other related topics. Attendee Registration

The primary attendees of the 2019 P-12 Educator Conference with be educators from the School District of Hillsborough County (SDHC). However, we have reserved 25 spaces for non-SDHC educators. If you are an educator from outside this district, or if you are in a high-leverage position for offering professional development or coordination of teacher training, please consider registering to attend the conference. Spaces will be filled on a first-come first-serve basis with a waiting list. Registration costs for these 25 limited spaces is $50 and includes participation in the full day of sessions, the curriculum exchange, and lunch.

Faculty position at Milwaukee School of Engineering

Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) invites applications at all ranks for a full-time faculty position in Biomedical Engineering (BME) beginning in the fall of 2019. Academic rank will depend on qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.

Candidates must have an earned doctorate in biomedical engineering or a closely related engineering field by the beginning date of appointment. A Bachelor of Science degree in biomedical engineering or a related engineering field from an accredited institution is preferred. Industrial experience is preferred. Candidates must be qualified to instruct undergraduate integrated lecture/laboratory courses and specialize in one or more subspecialty area of BME, including biomechanics, bioinstrumentation, biomedical sensors and actuators, biomedical signals and systems, and medical device design.
