Abstract submissions for BMES 2019

Dear Colleagues,

I am writing to you all today in my capacity as co-chair of the Biomedical Engineering Education (BED) Track for the upcoming 2019 BMES Annual Conference in Philadelphia. Given the recent available extension to submit abstracts until May 8th, 2019, we are reaching out to those who may still be interested in submitting an abstract for an oral or poster presentation for this year’s conference.

Currently, 7 potential sessions are planned for this year’s meeting:

  • Design and Curriculum – work about teaching & learning the design process, or other work about the “cannon” of BME curriculum.
  • Multi-disciplinary and Inter-disciplinary Curriculum – work focusing on the incorporation of multi-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary aspects into biomedical engineering education.
  • Classroom Technology, Pedagogy and Innovation – work relating to the use of innovative pedagalogical methods and technology in courses and training.
  • ABET Program Criteria, Student Outcomes – work relating to the development and evaluation of methods ABET and its assessment.
  • Service Learning – work relating to the incorporation of service elements into coursework to improve learning and exposure.
  • Ethics in Education – work related to the training of students in ethics and ethical issues faced by biomedical engineers.
  • Industry Preparation – work about what industry wants BME graduates to know or be able to do, and work about curricular developments that better achieve these aims.

As always, work outside of these listed sessions are also encouraged, and we will do our best in an effort to find a fit or creation of a new session if enough abstracts are submitted.

I hope that you will consider submtting an abstract or multiple for this year’s BMES conference. Please contact me at bghosn@rice.edu if you have any questions or concerns should they arise.

Aain, just a reminder that abstracts will be accepted in our extended deadline until Wednesday, May 8th, 2019.
