Dear ASEE Colleagues:
As we face the recent blatant and painful reminders of the systemic and institutional racism that plague our society, we ask that we all stand together in support of Black engineering students and colleagues: listen to them; amplify their voices; educate ourselves and colleagues; and take actions to remove systemic injustices in our engineering communities.
To assist you with the self-education, the ASEE Commission on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (CDEI) offers a robust program of professional development in and outside of the Virtual Conference. We also celebrate ASEE members’ scholarship that addresses issues of equity, access, and inclusion in engineering. This message asks you to open & read the newsletter and learn more about ASEE CDEI resources and initiatives.
In addition to other CDEI opportunities and the group’s accomplishments this year, this CDEI Spring 2020 Newsletter details many education initiatives that we have available for you: a Summer Virtual Workshop series, the Virtual Conference programming, and resources on our website. Read it here: https://tinyurl.com/CDEI-Sp2020-Newsletter
The annual CDEI RoundTable Conversation session, scheduled in the ASEE Virtual Conference for Thursday, June 25, at 5:00 pm ET, will have spaces for conversations on disrupting racism and other topics. The Annual Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Pavilion that is usually in the exhibition hall will be part of the Virtual Exhibition each day. Feel free to stop in to learn more about CDEI resources or offer your own.
If you would like to contribute to this work, CDEI chairs invite you to join us in our Annual Business Meeting, Saturday, June 20, 3:30-5:00 pm ET, held outside the conference platform so not requiring conference registration. We will have working groups plan our activities for 2020-21 in line with the new CDEI Strategic Framework and ASEE-SEFI Joint Statement on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Links in the newsletter will allow you sign-up for the meeting and access the joint statement.
