Welcome back!!

We hope everyone is having a good start to their semester!! We hope you all do well in your undergraduate or graduate coursework and research endeavors this semester. 

We wanted to reach out to first introduce the new ASEE Student Division officers, send some general ASEE Student Division announcements, and to let you know about some job postings. We are here to support you and answer any questions or concerns you have whether it is about the student division, the annual conference, or engineering education research and coursework. 1. ASEE CONFERENCE ANNOUNCEMENT

We are currently working on our call for abstracts which will be available by September 1st. The 2025 ASEE conference will be held on June 22-25, 2025 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Here are some upcoming deadlines for 2025 ASEE conference papers:

1. POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: Chief Applied Engineering Administrator (University of Northern Iowa)

The University of Northern Iowa’s Division of Academic Affairs seeks applications for the position of Chief Applied Engineering Administrator, estimated to start in January 2025. Reporting directly to the Provost, this two-year term appointment may develop into a full-time tenure-eligible position beyond the initial term. The successful candidate will dedicate a full-time effort to help the Provost’s administrative team develop the academic structures, professional networks, and approvals necessary to launch a new Department of Applied Engineering (planned for Fall 2025). The successful candidate will be eligible to apply for a faculty or departmental leadership position based on qualifications and experience. The successful candidate also may be eligible for the “Faculty Recruitment” tuition reimbursement program meant to support faculty in pursuing a graduate degree relevant for the UNI academic program in which faculty assignment is housed. Required Qualifications: Master’s degree, with at least one degree (undergraduate or graduate) in applied engineering or related field; at least five years of leadership experience in a university or commensurate industry management experience; University teaching and/or relevant industry training experience; and effective verbal and written communication skills required.

Preferred Qualifications: Earned doctorate degree; demonstrated successful project management experience; a combination of university and industry experience; the ability to develop external relationships; and evidence of leadership excellence and innovation preferred.

2. POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: Assistant or Associate Professor: Career and Technology Education (University of Maryland Eastern Shore)

The Department of Built Environment invites applicants for a nine and half month, tenure-track faculty position starting January 2025. The position will support the Master’s degree in Career and Technology Education (CTE) and the certificate programs in Work-Based Learning (WBL) and Career Counseling.  This position will be stationed at the Baltimore Museum of Industry (BMI), 1425 Key Hwy., Suite 101, Baltimore, MD.  The position includes regular interaction with various departments, faculty, and staff on the main campus. Responsibilities

  • Marketing and recruitment for the CTE and WBL programs to grow enrollment. 
  • Advise students and assist with applying and enrolling in courses. 
  • Hold weekly office hours at BMI for student meetings, answering phone calls, and attending meetings with the administrative assistants and the program Director. 
  • Teach both hybrid courses in person at BMI and online courses. 
  • Update existing courses and develop new courses in Canvas and Curriculog. 
  • Help with preparing CTE and WBL courses in Canvas for adjunct instructors to utilize. 
  • Periodically update program documents and curriculum to stay in alignment with Code of Maryland (COMAR)  regulation and accreditation criteria. 
  • Collection of data and completion of reports for accreditation and state program re-approvals. 
  • Develop new courses and program proposals as educational needs in the state evolve. 
  • Conduct rigorous research on CTE, WBL, or TEE related topics. 
  • Publish research in leading peer-reviewed journals and present at professional CTE, WBL, and TEE educator/researcher conferences annually. 
  • Pursue and obtain external grant funding to benefit the university and the CTE programs. 
  • Collaborate with stakeholders such as the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) and local school systems for recruitment, outreach, and research efforts. 
  • Attend quarterly state CTE curriculum director meetings. 
  • Visit local school systems to conduct observations and evaluations of teacher interns from the CTE, WBL, or TEE programs. 
  • Maintain the confidentiality of program information and records. 
  • Travel to main campus for opening semester ceremonies and graduation each semester.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned 

Required Qualifications

  • An earned doctorate or ABD in Career and Technical Education, Workforce Education, Technology and Engineering Education, Engineering Education, or a closely related field is required for consideration.
  • Experience in the use of computers and learning management systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • K-12 teaching experience in CTE, WBL, TEE, or a related field.
  • Experience with curriculum development.
  • Experience with program accreditation.
  • Experience with teaching online courses.
  • Evidence of leadership ability in CTE, WBL, TEE or a related field.
  • Demonstrated record of publishing peer-reviewed research or securing external funding.

3. POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT:  Case Writer & Learning Experience Designer (University of Michigan)

The Center for Socially Engaged Engineering and Design (C-SED) is hiring a case study writer and learning experience designer to support our mission of integrating sociotechnical content into engineering science and design courses to help students understand the impacts of their work. You will contribute to our mission by researching and writing original case studies and developing corresponding modules and workshops for undergraduates. You will have the opportunity to work primarily remotely (only being on-site as needed). We are open to candidates looking for either a part-time or full-time appointment. 4. POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: Assistant/ Associate/ Professor Professional Practice, Software Innovation (The Ohio State University) 

 We seek applicants with a software background to advance the mission of the Center for Software Innovation and the newly established Integrated Business & Engineering, Software Innovation track  (IBE-SI). The IBE program was established in 2014. The new Software Innovation (SI) track enrolled its first class of students in Autumn 2023. The faculty member hired for this position is expected to support CSI, IBE-SI, EED and future expansion of SI-related initiatives and courses across the OSU community.  This position will be housed within the EED. Required Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. or other terminal degree in engineering, computer science, engineering education or another field of study relevant to the area of software innovation or demonstrated  work experience in software / technology industry
  • Proven skills and experience in innovative software strategy, design, development, and launch.
  • Demonstrated evidence of successful teaching and/or mentoring of teams (students or employees) in engineering and/or business contexts
  • Demonstrated excellence in oral, written, and graphical communication
  • Excellent interpersonal skills when working with both external and internal colleagues or interdisciplinary teams

Preferred Qualifications

5. POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: Emerging Leaders in Engineering Program Specialist (University of Washington)

The ELE Specialist will support the College of Engineering’s goals to ensure undergraduate students are prepared with the appropriate leadership skills to be able to contribute to the public good. It does so specifically by providing infrastructure, organization, and support to the Emerging Leaders in Engineering (ELE) program. Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Science, Science, Engineering, or Humanities Discipline
  • Two to three years of related working experience such as project/program management.

Additional Requirements

  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to identify areas for improvement, set priorities, and initiate solutions as a strong independent contributor and collaborative team member.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills including effectively managing various tasks in the context of a fast-paced environment while ensuring attention to detail, accuracy, and quality results.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully plan and execute small and large-scale projects and events.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and the Google Suite.
  • Flexibility and availability for working weekday evening and/or weekend events. Frequency is anticipated to be around 1-2 times a quarter.

6. POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: Postdoctoral Research Fellow (University of Southern California)

The University of Southern California’s Kortschak Center for Learning and Creativity in collaboration with Viterbi School of Engineering is accepting applications for one Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in the field of accessibility, learning, and student-wellness. The fellowship allows scholars to sharpen their analytical skills and gain research experience in the fields of accessibility, learning, student-wellness and Engineering education through formal and informal training and extensive collaboration with established researchers. This postdoctoral Research Fellow will serve as a research trainee for the purpose of enhancing and developing research competencies. The Fellow will also participate in planning, designing, and conducting on-going and new research projects under the direction of a supervisor, and may or may not work independently.

Scholars who have completed a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline such as educational psychology, public health, Engineering education, STEM education, Curriculum design, Special Education, and psychology, are invited to apply. Applicants must be within 5 years of PhD completion and a PhD must be in hand prior to the start of the appointment. The fellowship provides a competitive stipend and other benefits for a 12-month fixed term, which may be renewed up to a maximum of two years.
