The Air Force Institute of Technology invites applications for Dean of the Graduate School of Engineering and Management. The Dean is the senior academic and administrative leader of the Graduate School, responsible for leadership in the development and operation of the school’s academic programs and the direction of the school’s management and support structure. As a senior leader of the Institute, the Dean also has Institute-wide academic and administrative responsibilities in fulfillment of the AFIT mission. The Dean also leads faculty recruiting, development, retention, promotion, performance evaluation, and merit recognition. This person is also responsible for maintenance and development of partnerships with appropriate universities, research institutions, and funding organizations relevant to the school’s disciplines, as well as being knowledgeable in current and projected trends and requirements with emphasis on accreditation. The Dean executes the position’s duties through Department Heads, Associate Deans, and Directors.

AFIT is a federal institution located at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton, OH. It provides defense-focused graduate education primarily for the U.S. Air and Space Forces and Department of Defense. AFIT has been accredited by the Higher Learning Commission since 1960. The Graduate School is a Carnegie-classified High Research Activity doctoral institution with 25 MS degree, 13 PhD, and 19 certificate programs in engineering, applied science, mathematics, and management; 7 programs are accredited by ABET at the advanced level. The Graduate School provides its students with research on high-priority defense problems. Qualifications: Applicants must be US citizens and have outstanding professional competence and experiences sufficient for academic appointment as a full Professor in one of the school’s departments. Qualified candidates will have an earned doctorate in engineering, management, mathematics, physical sciences, or a closely related field; exhibit a strong research publication record, extensive experience with externally funded research, and sound academic and professional leadership abilities. Candidates need the ability to communicate clearly and expertly (in English) in both verbal and written forms concerning academic, administrative, and technical subject matters.

Engineering PLUS stEm PEER (Practitioners Enhancing Engineering Regionally) Academy

stEm PEERs will engage in a 2-year professional development and research experience to support the design and implementation of an engineering-focused Implementation Project at their home institutions, with the institution’s support. PEERs will have the opportunity to learn and engage with program experts, researchers and practitioners. Throughout the 2-year engagement, participants will deepen their knowledge and understanding of the challenges and successful strategies guiding the transformation of our national Engineering landscape. PEERs will utilize data and assessment to inform not only their specific implementation project but also to support their synergistic program efforts at their respective institutions and beyond. PEERs will also be guided and supported to submit project outcomes as publications to LSAMP, ASEE and/or the National INCLUDES Network to inform future broadening participation collaborations. PEERs will launch a growing national community of engineering education equity leaders.

Additionally, each program participant will receive a $1,000 stipend to support their participation and continued engagement in this effort. We are seeking mid-career education professionals with a minimum of five years of related experience.

The stEm PEER Academy will investigate the following topics:

  • Understanding the Engineering Education Pathway Landscape with emphasis on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
  • Models and interventions that work for women and BIPOC students to enroll and facilitate degree attainment
  • Building partnerships/engagement of stakeholders
  • Planning, implementing and assessing, and scaling the Implementation Project
