  • Dr. Bevlee Watford received the Sharon Keillor Award at the 2021 Annual Conference

  • Awarded to Dr. Beena Sukumaran was awarded The WEPAN Inclusive Culture and Equity Award for exemplary leadership in implementing programs that promote positive change to the climate and culture for women in engineering fields for serving as a model for others.
  • Dr. Lily Gossage was elected as elected as Chair-Elect for ASEE Zone IV.
  • Dr. Beth Meyers received a ‘Rising Star in Diversity’ Award from CoNECD and was promoted to Assistant Vice Provost/Assistant Vice Chancellor at the University of Colorado, Boulder.
  • Dr. Mark Budnik received an ASEE Outstanding Teacher medal.
  • Dr. Sandra Eksioglu has been appointed the Hefley Professorship in Logistics and Entrepreneurship in the Department of Industrial Engineering at the University of Arkansas.
  • Dr. Beena Sukumaran was named to Vice President for Research at Rowan University with responsibility for facilitating and enhancing research activities across Rowan University’s fourteen colleges and schools and various research centers.

  • Dr. Jenna P. Carpenter was named the founding dean of of Campbell University’s proposed School of Engineering launching in 2016. For more information, click here.
  • Dr. Adrienne Minerick was recently promoted to full professor at Michigan Technological University.
  • Dr. Laila Guessous was recently promoted to full professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Oakland University.
  • Dr. Laila Guessous was recently appointed as Faculty Development Coordinator of the School of Engineering and Computer Science at Oakland University and in this new role, she will implement a faculty menotring program.
  • Dr. Kristen Constant was recognized and awarded the Morrill Professorship at Iowa State University, which recognizes faculty members with outstanding success in teaching and learning in undergraduate, graduate or extension/outreach programs. For more information, click here.
  • Dr. Adrienne Minerick was promoted to the position of Associate Dean for Research and Innovation at the Michigan Technological University College of Engineering. For more information, see the press release here.
  • Dr. Liz Litzler was promoted to Director of the Center for Workforce Development at the University of Washington.
  • Dr. Colleen Bronner recently achieved a faculty appointment at UC Davis in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering as a Lecturer with Potential for Security of Employment.
  • Dr. Beth Holloway of Purdue University, Dr. Teri Reed and Dr. P.K. Imbrie of Texas A&M University, and Dr. Kenneth Reid of Virginia Technical Institute were selected to receive the William Elgin Wickenden Award by the American Society for Engineering Education. The award is given annually to recognize an article in each volume year of the Journal of Engineering Education that represents the highest standards of scholarly research in engineering education.
  • Dr. Amy Sue Bix, Associate Professor in History at Iowa State University, was honored with the WEPAN Betty Vetter Research Award.

  • Dr. Brenda Hart, (retired) Professor and Director of Student Affairs at the J.B. Speed School of Engineering at the University of Louisville, was honored with the WEPAN President’s Award.

  • Dr. Susan L. Burkett receives University Of Alabama Engineering’s Hackney Leadership Award – In a press release, UA News (3/19) said Dr. Susan L. Burkett, the Alabama Power Foundation Endowed Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Alabama College of Engineering, has been awarded the 2014 T. Morris Hackney Endowed Faculty Leadership Award.

  • Dr. Lorelle A. Meadows is appointed as Assistant Dean of Academic Programs at University of Michigan College of Engineering.
  • Dr. Lori Bruce is appointed Dean of the Graduate School and Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs at Mississippi State University.
  • Dr. Jenna P. Carpenter has been elected as one of the twelve new ASEE Fellows. Dr. Carpenter is an associate dean for undergraduate education and professor of mathematics in Louisiana Tech University’s College of Engineering and Science.
  • Ica Manas-Zloczower, the Thomas W. and Nancy P. Seitz Professor of Advanced Materials and Energy at the Case School of Engineering at Case Western Reserve University, won the 2012 George S. Whitby Award for Distinguished Teaching and Research awarded by the American Chemical Society Rubber Division. The award honors outstanding international teachers of chemistry and polymer science and recognizes innovative research and contributions to the integration of chemistry and polymer science in education. Manas-Zloczower is also president of the International Polymer Processing Society for the term 2011-2013.
  • Melissa Knothe Tate, professor of Biomedical Engineering and mechanical and aerospace engineering at the Case School of Engineering and Case Western Reserve University, received the 2011 Christopher Columbus Foundation and Chamber of Commerce Scientist of the Year award.
  • LaShanda Korley, the Climo Assistant Professor of Macromolecular Science and Engineering at the Case School of Engineering at Case Western Reserve University, was invited to participate at the 2013 Global Challenges Summit (US NAE, UK Royal Society of Engineering & Chinese Academy of Engineering). She was also a Kavli Fellow and Planning Group member for the 2012 Japanese/American Frontiers of Science Symposium. In 2012 she was elected to participate at the National Academy of Engineering’s U.S. Frontiers of Engineering Symposium.
  • Ashlee Ford Versypt, an ASEE-WIED member and postdoctoral researcher in MIT’s chemical engineering department, has been named the 2012 Frederick A. Howes Scholar in Computational Science. The award honors recent doctoral graduates of the Department of Energy Computational Science Graduate Fellowship (DOE CSGF) program for outstanding technical achievements. It also recognizes exceptional leadership, integrity and character – qualities that reflect the award’s namesake. Dr. Howes, who died in 1999, managed DOE’s Applied Mathematical Sciences Program and was an advocate for the fellowship and its goals.
  • The Orthopaedic Research Society recently awarded Clare Rimnac, associate dean of research and the Wilbert J. Austin Professor of Engineering at the Case School of Engineering at Case Western Reserve University, with the 2013 ORS Women’s Leadership Forum Award.
  • A historical achievement for Case Western Reserve University occurred when Professor Meral Ozsoyoglu, the Andrew R. Jennings Professor of Computing at the Case School of Engineering, was named an Association for Computing Machinery Fellow in 2011—one of the top awards and distinctive recognitions in Computer Science.   • Brian Kirkmeyer, Ph.D., has been named the Karen Buchwald Wright Assistant Dean for Student Success and Instructor. This position was made possible by a $1.5M endowment by Karen Buchwald Wright, the parent of a December 2011 engineering graduate and a current Mechanical Engineering student at Miami University. Ms. Wright is also the President and CEO of Ariel Corporation in Mt.   • Teri Reed-Rhoads, Ph.D., has been named Assistant Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs for Engineering of the TAMU System, Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs and Associate Professor of the Department of Petroleum Engineering of the Dwight Look College of Engineering at Texas A&M University.  She joined Texas A&M University from Purdue University, where she received one of Purdue’s highest honors given by the University President in the fall of 2012, the One Brick Higher Award.
  • Jorja Kimball, Ph.D., has been named Regent’s Fellow by the Texas A&M University System’s Board of Regents in honor of her service in providing exemplary service that has created lasting benefits to Texas and beyond.  The award if made for agency professionals and is analogous to the Regents Professor Award for faculty members in the Texas A&M System.
  • Dr. Sarah Rajala will become the next dean of the College of Engineering at Iowa State University on April 1, 2013. Rajala has been the dean of Bagley College of Engineering at Mississippi State University since 2008.
  • Karen C. Chou, Ph.D., P.E., Assistant Chair and Clinical Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Northwestern was named 2012 Civil Engineer of the Year.  She was recognized at the Illinois Section ASCE Award Annual Dinner Meeting.  In attendance were about 25 former and current students and her former professor.
  • Tricia Berry, Women in Engineering Program Director at The University of Texas at Austin, was named one of the 100 Women Leaders in STEM for her work as Director of the Texas Girls Collaborative Project. Tricia was also recognized as a Game Changer by nonprofit Girlstart.
  • Congratulations to Dr. Alice Pawley, an Assistant Professor of School of Engineering Education at Purdue University for receiving the Presidential Early Career Award in Science and Engineering (PECASE) for her work on diversity in engineering education. In 2010 Dr. Alice Pawley was awarded the prestegius NSF CAREER award for her work on Learning from Small Numbers.
  • Dr. Patricia D. Galloway, P.E. of Pegasus Global Holdings, Inc. has been named to the Pacific Science Center Board of Directors. The mission of Pacific Science Center is to inpire a lifelong interest in science, mathematics and technology by engaging diverse communities through interactive and innovative exhibits and programs.
  • Clemson University researcher Julie P. Martin has been awarded a science and technology policy fellowship by the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Martin will be positioned at NSF in the Washington, D.C., area beginning Sept. 1 helping manage the agency’s role as a policy leader in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education and STEM workforce development.
  • Dr. Kristen Constant is appointed the Chair of the Materials Science and Engineering department at Iowa State University.
  • Dr. Cheryl B. Schrader, was appointed in April 2012 as Chancellor of Missouri University of Science & Technology (formerly the University of Missouri-Rolla). She is the first female chancellor in Missouri S&T’s 142 year history.
  • Dr. Laura Bottomley, the Director of NC State University Engineering Place outreach program, has been named 2011 Woman of the Year by the NC Triangle Chapter of the Women’s Transportation Seminar.
  • Tammy Salmon-Stephens, University of Wisconsin-Platteville, was named Woman of the Year.
  • Lily Gossage, the Engineering Educational Research Associate for the Office of Engineering Educational Research & Assessment at California State University, Long Beach, has been appointed the Director of Diversity for WEPAN.
  • Dr. Patricia Daniels, P.E., Affiliate Professor in Electrical Engineering at the University of Washington, has been named the Adjunct Accreditation Director of Engineering for ABET.
  • Dr. Christina Curras, Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Wisconsin Platteville was chosen for 1-3 years appointment as Assistant to Vice Chancellor for Business Affairs.
  • Dr. D. Joanne Wilson, a tenured Full Professor of General Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, has been appointed Interim Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs.
  • Karen J. Horton, P.E., Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering Technology at the University of Maine, is the 2012 recipient of the UMaine Presidential Public Service Achievement Award for her service to advance the participation and achievement of girls and women in STEM.
  • Dr. Tanya Kunberger, founding faculty member of the U. A. Whitaker College of Engineering at Florida Gulf Coast University, received the 2012 American Society for Engineering Education Southeastern Section Outstanding Teaching Award. The award recognizes “faculty members who have demonstrated exceptional contributions to engineering or engineering technology education through outstanding classroom performance.”
  • Matthew W. Ohland, Catherine E. Brawner, Michelle M. Camacho, Richard A. Layton, Russell A. Long, Susan M. Lord, and Mara H. Wasburn receive the 2012 William Elgin Wickenden Award in recognition of their article, “Race, Gender, and Measures of Success in Engineering Education,” which was published in the April 2011 issue of the Journal of Engineering Education.
  • Dr. Karinna M. Vernaza, Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Gannon University, is the 2012 recipient of the American Society for Engineering Education North Central Section Outstanding Teaching Award. This award is given annually to an educator who has shown evidence of excellence in engineering education.
  • Dr. Patricia D. Galloway, P.E. of Pegasus Global Holdings, Inc. has been named to the board of Directors as Outside Advisor of the engineering firm Bergmann Associates, headquartered in Rochester, New York.To learn more, click here.

  • Dr. Keisha Walters, an associate professor of Chemical Engineering at Mississippi State University, is the 2012 recipient of the Raymond W. Fahien Award from the Chemical Engineering Division of the American Society for Engineering Education. This award given annually to an educator who has shown evidence of vision and contribution to chemical engineering education.
