The Department of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering (CBE) at the University of Maine, the flagship R1 campus of the University of Maine System, invites applications for a tenure-track/tenured position in our chemical engineering program at an assistant, associate, or full professor rank. Appointment at the rank of associate or full professor with immediate tenure in the Department of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering may be considered if the candidate’s credentials meet the department’s criteria for the rank. Candidates must have expertise in Pulp and Paper and/or Biomass processing. This is a 50% teaching and 50% research position.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Highly motivated, student-oriented candidates with a strong commitment to quality teaching and research are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be expected to show strong commitment to quality teaching and establish a sustainable, extramurally funded research program.
Teaching assignments will typically include core courses in the Department’s undergraduate and graduate chemical engineering programs. Opportunities exist for developing electives with topics relevant to departmental research areas or other advanced topics. The candidate will also be expected to participate in academic advising of undergraduate students and to supervise graduate student theses and dissertations. Affiliation with UMaine research centers such as: Process Development Center (PDC), Forest Bioproducts Research Institute (FBRI), Advanced Structures and Composites Center (ASCC), Aquaculture Research Institute (ARI), and others is encouraged. Advancement through the faculty ranks at UMaine is through a series of structured, merit-based evaluations occurring on a determined schedule, each of which includes substantial peer input.

Qualifications:
Required:
• The candidate must have earned a Ph.D. (or equivalent) in Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field by the date of hire.
• Applicants must be committed to quality undergraduate and graduate education including teaching and mentoring.
Preferred:
• Experience in developing and teaching courses in core Chemical engineering and pulp and paper disciplines.
• A track record of innovative research in relevant areas synergistic with current UMaine research strengths.
