Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Aerospace Engineering

The Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2018. We seek an individual who will strengthen our aerospace engineering research and educational programs. Applicants from all areas of aerospace engineering are welcome; of particular interest are applicants with disciplinary expertise in aerodynamics, structures, and/or system optimization, who are applying this expertise to design the next generation of aerospace vehicles. Preference will be given to applicants who have synergies with existing faculty.

The successful candidate should have demonstrable experience in managing academic programs, working with faculty, staff, students, alumni, industry, other administration officials, and government and funding agencies.
The Mechanical Engineering Department has a well-established and nationally recognized undergraduate education program, and it is now seeking to expand its graduate research component. The new Ph.D. program and facilities expansion and renovation will help support this endeavor. The HMR College of Engineering is therefore searching for a Head who will lead the Mechanical Engineering Department in achieving the growth of the department’s research activity and funding expenditures while maintaining and enhancing the ongoing core mission of delivering first-class undergraduate education.
Qualifications
Candidates should have a doctoral degree in mechanical engineering or a related field. Faculty Position: IPPD Program Assistant Director

The Integrated Product and Process Design (IPPD) Program is an institutionalized, industrially sponsored multidisciplinary capstone design course sequence. Over 3,200 seniors in various engineering and business disciplines have participated in more than 500 projects since the program’s founding in 1995. IPPD prepares students for professional practice by engaging them in real-world design, build and test projects provided by sponsoring industrial clients and supported by company liaison engineers and UF faculty mentor/coaches. UF IPPD is part of the Engineering Innovation Institute within the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering.
The IPPD Assistant Director will be responsible for managing the design, planning, and delivery of leading edge product and process design curriculum, mentoring project teams, assisting with sponsor company, project and student recruiting, publishing scholarly work related to capstone design education in engineering education journals and conference proceedings, leading and participating in grant-writing activities, and teaching courses in the Engineering Innovation Institute.

- Smart industrial systems design and optimization: This research focuses on IoT-enabled customer-driven industrial system design and optimization. IoT technology creates new ways of gaining insights into how customers are using products and/or services, what customers want, how well the products and/or services serve customers, and how the products provide reliable and responsive functionality. This area of research studies the IoT-based systematic framework in industrial system design by taking product usage and performance measures into consideration.
- Autonomous and resilient system operations: This area focuses on optimal operational decision-making, such as monitoring, prediction, engineering control, real-time scheduling, resource allocation, inventory control, process automation, and human-machine collaboration to achieve autonomy, resiliency, and optimization in industrial systems. 2.Geoengineering for Sustainable Urban and Off-Shore Development: Foundation and infrastructure development, modeling, design, maintenance, reuse and renewal in congested urban environments and in offshore settings. Advancement of smart geo-infrastructure, onshore and offshore energy foundations, shallow geothermal applications, and deep geo-energy development. Analytical, experimental, and numerical study of soil-structure interaction and design of onshore and offshore foundations to improve infrastructure resilience to extreme events and geohazards. Modeling of shallow and deep geo-energy applications for energy production, gas sequestration, and waste storage.
3.Synthetic Biology for Environmental Solutions: Creation of innovative solutions for bioenergy, resource recovery, and emerging public health concerns by leveraging synthetic or molecular biology tools (e.g., high throughput DNA synthesis), novel biological systems (e.g., genetic circuits, enzymes, genetically engineered microbes), fundamental biological and chemical concepts, artificial intelligence, and big data science, as well as collaborations in Computer Science, Public Health, or related fields.
4.Emerging Construction Materials for Buildings and Pavements: Design and implementation of innovative materials to enable sustainable and functional civil infrastructure. Areas of desired expertise include but are not limited to: smart materials that enable adaptive, multi-functional, self-healing, energy harvesting, phase changing or sensing properties; sustainable materials including alternative cements and binders, advanced polymer or asphalt composites, and materials with enhanced durability; and materials that promote emerging construction practice such as additive manufacturing and automated construction processes.
5.Sustainable and Smart Infrastructure and Multimodal Transportation: Planning, design, construction, monitoring, management, and control of complex infrastructure systems and multimodal transportation for enhanced efficiency, resilience, and sustainability; integration of engineering fundamentals and principles, interdisciplinary approaches, and emerging technologies (e.g., high-performance computing, automation, robotics, networked sensing, data analytics) to address new opportunities such as smart infrastructure systems (e.g., roads, structures, electricity, water) and autonomous and connected transportation.

Tenure-Track Faculty Position in Chemical Engineering at Campbell University
