The Division may offer the following awards and honors on an annual basis:
- BAE Best Paper Award. This award will be for the best submitted papers to the proceedings, and all faculty and students are eligible. The program chair will identify and select the highest scoring paper using ASEE’s paper review process scoring system to be recognized as the Division’s Best Paper. In case of a tie, the program chair will solicit a panel of three (3) former Division chairs to break the tie via a simple majority. The selected paper will be nominated for the Best PIC I Paper.
- Early Achievement in Education Award. This award recognizes evidence of outstanding teaching performance and/or scholarly achievements in engineering education that occurs unusually early in a faculty member’s professional career.
- Eligibility: Tenure- or professional-track (e.g., clinical professor, lecturer, research professor) with not more than six years’ experience post-Ph.D. (or other appropriate terminal degree), excluding post-doctoral work, in the field of biological and/or agricultural engineering. Recipient must be an ASEE member and a member of the BAE Division at the time the award is made at the ASEE Annual Conference and Exposition.
- Nature of Award: Recipients will receive full early-bird registration for the upcoming ASEE Annual Conference and Exposition. Recipient is also asked to give an invited lecture on her or his teaching methods, philosophy, and/or accomplishments in a BAE Division-sponsored session at the same meeting.
- Procedure: Nomination packets must include the following:
- A nomination letter (up to 3 pages) discussing why the nominee is deserving of the award. Letter should highlight the quality and quantity of educational responsibilities performed, and provide evidence of excellence and impact.
- Nominee’s vita (up to 4 pages) focused on information pertinent to the award.
- Letters of support (up to 3) from peers and students (current and/or former)
- Selection Process: Nominees are evaluated on the following: quality and quantity of educational responsibilities performed, evidence of excellence and impact. A simple majority vote will determine the committee’s recommendation for the award recipient
- Excellence in Teaching Materials and Methods Award. This award recognizes an individual or group of individuals in the development and dissemination of excellent teaching materials and methods in Biological and Agricultural Engineering.
- Eligibility: Individuals need not be members of ASEE, but preference will be given to ASEE members.
- Nature of Award: The award consists of a $500 honorarium and an inscribed plaque, which are presented during the ASEE Annual Conference.
- Procedure: Nomination packets must include the following:
- A nomination letter (up to 3 pages) that describes the innovation and excellence of a specific teaching material or method. Letter should highlight impacts on student learning.
- Supporting materials (curriculum, publications, teaching philosophy etc.) relevant to the specific teaching material or method.
- Selection Process: Nominees are evaluated on the innovation and excellence of a specific teaching material or method. A simple majority vote will determine the committee’s recommendation for the award recipient.
